Gill Vines became a member of Harding House Gallery in 2014 after many years selling and exhibiting her work throughout the UK. A lively painting style and love of colour have earned Gill a strong reputation in the region as a contemporary painter. With work verging on abstraction, Gill is influenced by Impressionism, and the bold work of the Fauvists.
Gill works in a quiet meditative way back in her small Lincoln studio using
preparatory sketches, along with her own photos and an intuitive sense of the places and people she has seen, where through colourful layers of paint the subject emerges.
Commissions are a welcome challenge, with Lincoln Cathedral being her most painted subject, and living a short walk from the Cathedral makes it hard to ignore. It’s a constant baffling puzzle to be unravelled and explored through paint...
This coming May Gill returns to the Upper Gallery with a solo exhibition of her latest paintings, in oil, acrylic and watercolour. Her work can also be seen on permanent display in our lower gallery.
