Since graduating from Lincoln University in 1999 Kevin has established himself as an artist producing unique works predominately in glass and metal.
His main interest is the human form and focuses on life drawing, interpreting this by using materials not normally associated with the discipline, glass replaces the paper and formed copper wire becomes what traditionally would be pencil. The construction lines used when creating a life drawing remain an integral part of the work and this makes Kevin’s work so instantly recognizable. These glass and metal drawings were originally intended to be used as an alternative to stained glass for windows, but are now mounted on a backboard so they can be hung on any wall.
Kevin also creates bowls and freestanding glass panels incorporating metallic inclusions, taking influence from his immediate environment, the night sky and his interest in African textile design.
“As a figurative artist working in the medium of glass and metal my drawings are an alternative to traditional drawing techniques, a method I have developed over the last fifteen years through a natural progression. Experimentation is a very important factor in this progression and with a simple palette of glass, copper, sterling silver, 24ct gold, schlag, brass and aluminium, which all perform with a desired unpredictability, new work has evolved.”
“I am figurative, but I do make other stuff too!”
