New Members
We are always looking for new work, so if you are an artist interested in joining the gallery as a member, you might like to submit your work for consideration.Harding House Co-operative is precisely what it’s name implies, and becoming a member carries both benefits and obligations.
-
The benefits are numerous:
- Lincoln is an up and coming tourist destination and we are in a prime shopping location on Steep Hill which is popular with both locals and visitors in search of something unique.
- As a member of HHG you would have your own designated space within the Gallery, and pay 10% on any sales. Being able to exhibit a large body of work is advantageous and increases the likelihood of sales.
- You would have the chance to promote yourself and your work whenever you are on duty in the gallery.
- You would also have the opportunity to stage solo or joint exhibitions in the Upper Gallery at no cost.
- You would be part of a group of working artists and makers who are extremely supportive of each other and their work.
- A mentoring scheme is in place for new members to help, support and advise for the first year of membership.
Being part of the Co-operative is a serious commitment, and as an individual you are expected to act responsibly and with consideration for other members. Each member is on duty staffing the Gallery approximately four days a month - the rota is drawn up two months in advance and is quite flexible and negotiable. Various day to day tasks such as tidying, cleaning and paperwork involved with sales are always necessary, and are undertaken by whoever is on duty that day.
Minuted meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 6pm, and all members are expected to attend these meetings which are an important part of the Co-operative’s ethos. At each meeting, various matters are discussed, decisions are made and submissions of work are voted upon.
Upon joining, a non-returnable bond of £60 is payable plus a £1 co-operative membership fee. Rent is £15 per month.
Six months notice in writing is required for cessation of membership, and there is a trial period of six months for both parties.
Alternatively, you might like your work to be considered for Sale or Return in the Gallery.
(40% commission on sales)
-
In both cases, submissions should consist of:
- A small body of work illustrating what would be on display (priced for sale as in the Gallery ie. including 40% commission)
- An up to date CV
- Photos of previous work
- Artists statement or a short description of the type of work.
If you have any further queries please phone the Gallery, or if you would like to come and meet the artists to see if Harding House Membership is for you, then please let us know and we can arrange a mutually convenient time.
